HOW TO CLEAN + CARE FOR YOUR MENSTRUAL CUP AND MENSTRUAL DISC

Sterilising your menstrual cup or menstrual disc before the first use

You will need to sterilise your Hello Cup or Hello Disc before first use. See full instructions below, or check out our whisk hack!

Cleaning your menstrual cup or menstrual disc during your period

After removal - Empty the contents into the toilet and rinse with cold water. This helps to prevent stains from setting in.

Then, clean your menstrual cup or disc with a small blob of Hello Wash, rinse, pat dry and reinsert. Alternatively can also use a mild soap. Just make sure that all of the soap is removed before reinsertion.

For extra protection - Spray your with Hello Go before allowing this to dry and then reinserting. A single application of Hello Go every 24 hours forms an invisible shield to bacteria that is bound to the surface and doesn't leach into the vagina.

If there is no sink or tap around - for example, you're in a cubicle - it is totally fine to wipe out with loo paper and then reinsert. Then, when you do have a tap, follow the steps above.

Sterilising your menstrual cup or menstrual disc at the end of your period

You will need to sterilise your Hello Cup or Hello Disc at the end of your period before using it again the next cycle. To do this, wash with Hello Wash or a mild soap and then sterilise before you put it away.

To sterilise - Place your menstrual cup or disc in a full pot of water and boil for at least for 3 minutes. Use a timer so that it doesn't boil dry.

You can also soak your menstrual cup or disc for 15 minutes in a glass of cold water containing 1/4 sterilising tablet (Milton is the most common brand available in most Australasian supermarkets and pharmacies). Do not leave it soaking for longer than 15 minutes as this may cause damage.

Make sure your Hello Cup or Hello Disc is fully dry before you store it away. Store it in a dry place out of direct sunlight.

There are detailed cleaning instructions and a user guide in the packaging.
