HELLO DISC™ GENERAL FAQS
Each Hello Disc™ is FDA-registered and made from 100% premium medical grade silicone.
The Hello Disc™ menstrual disc is the result of a dream-team collaboration. Hello Cup™ founders Robyn McLean and Mary Bond, a registered nurse, teamed up with renowned menstrual cup and disc guru, Kim Rosas of Period Nirvana to design the Hello Disc™. Kim has tried virtually every menstrual disc on the market and felt there was a need for a disc that was easier to remove. And so Hello Disc™ was born!
The Hello Disc™ menstrual disc is a handy ‘one size fits most’. The 68mm rim of the Hello Disc™ is designed to fit most users. It offers more capacity than regular tampons, sanitary pads, or menstrual cups (the Hello Disc™ holds up to 50ml).
Why one size?
The vaginal fornix (where the Hello Disc™ sits) is frequently the same size from one person to another which is why our menstrual disc is a handy ‘one size fits most’.
Also, because the Hello Disc™ sits higher (than a menstrual cup) and tucks behind the pubic bone, it’s much easier to have a ‘one size’ option with menstrual discs.
Yes, you can enjoy no-mess period sex with your Hello Disc™ in place! As your Hello Disc™ menstrual disc sits high and behind the pubic bone, it doesn’t get in the way of penetration. You shouldn’t be able to feel a thing with your Hello Disc™ in during play. No more laying down towels or period sex laundry!
IMPORTANT:
**The Hello Disc™ is NOT intended to be used as contraception and will not prevent pregnancy. If you wear your Hello Disc™ during sexual intercourse and condoms are your sole method of birth control, remove your Hello Disc™ - the disc has not been tested against condom use and friction may create a micro-tear in the condom.**
Like menstrual cups, menstrual discs collect your period blood. Unlike menstrual cups, menstrual discs are held in place by being tucked behind the pubic bone rather than by suction - meaning they are a great option if you have an IUD.
Check out our comparison video, here.
Capacity - The Hello Disc™ will hold up to 50 ml (our L cups hold 29.5 ml). That’s equal to around 5 regular tampons or pads.
Material - Hello Cups are made from medical-grade TPE, Hello Disc™s are made from medical-grade silicone.
Position - Menstrual cups sit lower in the vaginal canal. The Hello Disc™ tucks behind the pubic bone.
Suction - Hello Cups suction when in position. The Hello Disc™ does not use suction - instead, it sits in place. (This makes the Hello Disc™ a great choice if you have an IUD!)
Sizes/Cervix heights - Hello Cups come in 3 cervix heights and 3 different sizes. The Hello Disc™ is great for all cervix heights (just adjust the tab as you need to) and comes in a handy ‘one size fits most’.
The Double-Loop tab means the can be worn four ways and also solves the key removal issues. It is also the first disc that allows for single finger removal and emptying in one movement. The double loops also give more control when you are removing the disc - which means less (or no) mess!
A menstrual cup sits lower in the vaginal canal and so there is less need for knowledge of your anatomy to place and remove the cup - great for a beginner!
The Hello Disc™ is definitely suitable for a beginner, but because it sits up higher (the user needs to reach up further), you will want to be comfortable with your body to use the Hello Disc™. Get in touch with us at hello@helloperiod.com if you have questions about whether Hello Disc™ menstrual disc is suitable for you!
The Hello Disc™ menstrual disc is designed to be easily removed with one finger and to be mess free. It is possible that you will nail this the first time you try, or it may take a little practice!
With proper care your Hello Disc™ menstrual disc will last for years. Ideally, you should look to replace your Hello Disc™ at least every 5 years. The Hello Disc™ is made from premium medical-grade silicone which is silky smooth and safe for use in the body. Follow the care instructions and keep your disc away from sharp objects.
USING A HELLO CUP™
Yes! While some people get the hang of them straight away, for others it may take a bit of practice – in the same way tampons take a bit of practice the first time around. Once you've got the hang of it you'll find your Hello Cup™ is super easy to use.
We recommend a shallow punchdown fold as the best fold for the Hello Cups™. Because the rim is internal, we do not tend to recommend the c fold which some other menstrual cup brands suggest as it can result in your Hello Cup™ staying folded.
Once inserted, give your Hello Cup™ cup a gentle tug to help it form a seal.
Sometimes first-time users like to try inserting it in the shower. The water helps with the lubrication and you don't have to worry about any mess. You can also use water-based lubricants if needed.
We strongly recommend you use a shallow punchdown fold with your Hello Cup™ - and when we say 'shallow', we mean it! Try to make sure the fold doesn't go too far past the 'hello.' logo on the side of your cup. If the fold is too deep, it can stay folded - which isn't the aim of the game! To do a shallow punchdown fold push a small indent into one side of the cup – push in then scoop it backwards. You should have a spout at one end and the other side should have a fold that begins half way up the cup, starting near the 'hello' lettering. The shallower the fold, the easier you will find your Hello Cup™ opens. It can be fiddly to begin with, but once you've got the hang of it, you won't look back!
Wash your hands. Fold your Hello Cup™ using the shallow punchdown fold (see above). Keep the fold pinched and insert the pointy end first in a scooping motion.
Angle the cup towards your spine and let go of the fold once you can feel your fingers are just inside the vagina entrance.
Aim to have the end of the toggle sitting about 1cm inside the vagina entrance. Watch our cute insertion video here.
Place your fingers on the grip ring and squeeze the base of your Hello Cup™ menstrual cup to break the suction. Gently pull your menstrual cup down. Some find removing their cup on a slight angle is more comfortable, so that one "side" is removed before the other.
Ideally your cup will come out upright. This means it will be a mess-free experience. Tip the contents down the loo, rinse with cold water and reinsert. If you are not near a tap, it is fine to wipe your menstrual cup with toilet paper and reinsert.
For extra cleanliness, you can wash with Hello™ Wash and/or spray with our Hello Go Sterilising Spray before reinserting.
Check out our removal video here!
As long as your Hello Cup™ is the right size, is inserted correctly and emptied when needed, it shouldn't leak. However, like tampons, leaks can happen from time to time – especially if your cup hasn't opened out properly. Some users chose to wear a Hello Liner™ as a backup buddy while they get used to cup life, but most find cups to be far more reliable than tampons. If you feel you've done everything and your cup is still leaking – it may well be a sign it's too big (if there's not enough room for a cup to unfold it can stay folded), the 'punch' of your punchdown fold needs to be shallower or you need to tweak the angle you are inserting your cup on. Get in touch with us if you need some help! hello@helloperiod.com
Way less than you would have to with tampons – but everyone's flow is different.
On heavy days you might need to empty your Hello Cup™ up to four times a day but later in your cycle you will likely find you only need to take it out once a day. It is not recommended you leave your Hello Cup™ in for more than 12 hours – ideally you should empty it every 8 hours. You can wear your Hello Cup™ overnight as well as while swimming and exercising.
You only need to sterilise your Hello Cup™ before you use it for the first time and at the end of each cycle. After removing your Hello Cup™, empty it and rinse with cold water. Cold water helps prevent stains from setting in. Clean your cup with Hello.™ Wash and rinse.
If you're not near a sink, it's fine to simply empty the contents of your cup into the loo, wipe your Hello Cup™ out with toilet paper and reinsert.
For extra cleanliness, we recommend using our Hello Go™ hand and cup sterilising spray before reinserting. Just spray your cup and let it dry (takes a few seconds). This protects your cup from any bacteria (you can use it on your hands too!).
While you can leave your Hello Cup in for up to 12 hours, we recommend changing it every 8 hours if you can. If you are travelling in countries where tap water is not safe to drink, we recommend rinsing your Hello Cup™ with bottled water or using our Hello Go™ sanitising cup and hand spray.
At the end of your period, wash with Hello.™ Wash and sterilise your cup before you put it away. We recommend popping your clean Hello Cup™ into a full pot of water (try the whisk hack!) and boil for at least for 3 minutes (use a timer so that it doesn't boil dry!). You can also soak your Hello Cup™ for 15 minutes in a glass of cold water containing 1/4 sterilising tablet (Milton is the most common brand and is available in most Australasian supermarkets and pharmacies). Do not leave your cup soaking for longer than 15 minutes as this may damage the cup. If you want to sterilise your menstrual cup in a microwave steamer or UV steriliser, follow the manufacturer's instructions for menstrual cups or baby bottle teats.
Make sure your Hello Cup is fully dry before you store it. For more tips on cleaning your cup have a look at our blog here.
While you can use a menstrual cup when you have an IUD, studies suggest there may be an increased risk of dislodging your IUD. It is a personal choice and we recommend that you talk to your doctor in advance. If you want to use your cup while your IUD is in, we recommend waiting three months after your IUD has been inserted (to allow it to settle in). It's also a good idea to get your strings cut. Always make sure you break the suction fully before you start removing your cup. If you have an IUD, you could also look to try our Hello Disc™ which does not need suction to stay in place.
Yes you can! Hello Cups™ can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time so they are perfect for overnight. It can be a good idea to back your cup up overnight for the first few times to be sure that you have nailed the no leak life.
Yes you can! Because your Hello Cup is worn internally and forms a seal, there is no way for the blood to escape. Woohoo!
HELLO CUP™ SIZES AND RANGE
It's worth remembering that we don't recommend buying our menstrual cups based on your flow alone. Instead, we recommend choosing your Hello Cup™ based more on your fitness level (especially pelvic floor strength) and age. Check out our full size guide and quiz here.
We have three sizes in both our Average and High Cervix range: Small (S), Medium (M) and Large (L). come in 3 sizes.
We have two sizes in our Low Cervix Range: Medium (M) and Large (L).
S is our smallest, softest cup. It's the perfect choice for teenagers, petite users or those who prefer a 'mini' tampon.
M is our 'one size fits most' menstrual cup. We recommend it as a great starting point for users under 35. If you are over 35 with strong pelvic floor muscles, this is also a good choice to start with.
L is usually best for those over 35 who feel their pelvic floor isn't overly strong. If you are fit and over 35, you may need to go down a size.
It's worth noting that we find physically fit people are often best suited to smaller sizes regardless of age. You need your cup to have enough room to open properly. Fit people tend to have tighter pelvic floor muscles and often find they're better suited to a small cup. If you're uncertain, Hello Double Boxes are a great option to help you find which size works best for you. Many people find they can wear two sizes.
Check out our full size guide and quiz here.

Not all cervix heights are the same and the Hello Low Cervix menstrual cup range is - spoiler alert - designed specifically for people with a low cervix. Unlike our other cups, the Hello Low Cervix menstrual cup doesn't have a toggle at the end - just a smooth, rounded base. If you have tried a menstrual cup before but found that the stem or toggle pokes out and is uncomfortable, it's a sign you may have a low cervix.
The Hello Low Cervix menstrual cup comes in two sizes, medium and large. It has a rounded base with grip rings to allow for easy removal. It is toggle-free.
We recommend measuring your cervix height on days 1-3 of your period. To measure your cervix height, use our handy guide.
Not all cervix heights are the same and the Hello High Cervix menstrual cup range is - spoiler alert - designed specifically for people with a high cervix. It is longer than our Average Cervix Hello Cup™ range and is designed specifically for people who struggle to reach their menstrual cup when it comes time to remove.
The Hello High Cervix menstrual cup comes in three sizes; small, medium and large. It has an elongated body and longer toggle to allow for easy reach for people with a high-sitting cervix.
We recommend measuring your cervix height on days 1-3 of your period so that you know what height of cup you need.
To measure your cervix height, use our handy guide.

We are a B-Corp certified company.
Hello Cups™ will make having your period so much easier and cheaper. Unlike tampons which absorb your natural vjayjay moisture, Hello Cup™ won't dry you out or leave nasty bleached fibres behind.
Also, because you can reuse your Hello Cup for years you can say goodbye to late night dashes to the supermarket when your period shows up unexpectedly. No more rummaging around in your handbag for a tampon only to find it burst through its wrapper. No more stuffing tampons up your sleeve at work to hide the fact you're off to the loo to change your tampon. Your Hello Cup™ holds three times more than tampons – making heavier days just that much easier.
Did we mention that you'll save some serious moolah along the way too?
HELLO CUP™ GENERAL FAQS
Measuring your cervix is easy. Because your cervix can move during your cycle, for the most accurate results, we recommend following the below steps on day 1 - 3 of your period.
Step 1: Wash your hands
Step 2: Insert a finger into your vagina and feel for your cervix (sometimes a gentle sweeping action will help find it). Your cervix will feel a bit like the tip of your nose - kinda soft and springy.
Step 3: Take note of how far your finger is in and then remove it. Measure the length against a ruler.
Step 4: Check your measurement with our guide below to determine your cervix height.
PRO TIP: Measure your cervix when you are in the shower!
You can find more information here.
With proper care your Hello Cup will last you around five years. There are no set rules around when you should replace your cup. If you want to replace it every year, that is fine too.
Between uses store your cup in its organic cotton bag and / or somewhere out of direct sunlight.
Hello Cups™ are made from top notch medical-grade TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). They are hypoallergenic and free of BPAs, silicone, rubber and latex. Colours used are certified food grade and comply with EU and FDA standards. Hello Cups™ are vegan certified.
Yes! Hello Cups™ are vegan certified. Hello Cups™ do not contain animal products and are not tested on animals.

Hello Cups™ are the perfect travelling companion! We wish we'd known about cups when we were backpacking around the world! Not only will you have more money to spend but you'll have more room in your bags and you'll never be caught short no matter where in the world you are.
Brilliant.
There is absolutely no reason teenagers can't use cups. Users can start using Hello Cups from when they first get their period. Our small size ('S') Hello Cup™ is our smallest and softest cup and a great starting point for younger, first-time users. Some websites suggest menstrual cups may interfere with the hymen. Essentially inserting a cup is no different to inserting a tampon. The hymen will stretch and / or break naturally at some point, not necessarily during sex. Some people prefer not to use cups or tampons for personal or cultural reasons.
The risk of getting TSS (toxic shock syndrome) while using a menstrual cup is extremely low. TSS is a rare but serious condition caused by toxins released by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus. Symptoms include fever, chills, dizziness, fatigue, muscle aches, or rash. If you experience any of these symptoms – remove your Hello Cup™ and seek medical advice. Ensure you do not leave your cup in for more than 12 hours to keep yourself safe. TSS can only occur if the toxin enters your bloodstream. This can happen if you have an abrasion – which could be caused by sex, nails, tampons or cups being inserted without sufficient vaginal lubrication. If you are aware you have an abrasion, avoid wearing your cup (or tampon) until it has healed. Wash your hands before and after changing your cup.
USING A HELLO DISC™
Inserted correctly, your Hello Disc™ menstrual disc will provide leak-proof protection for hours. We recommend emptying and rinsing your Hello Disc™ every 8 hours. Go about your daily activities or sleep soundly without worry and in total comfort.
If possible, rinse your Hello Disc™ with cold water after each removal to help prevent stains setting in. Clean with a small blob of Hello.™ Wash and rinse. If you’re not near a tap, it’s fine to simply wipe out your disc with loo paper and reinsert until you can rinse it.
Sterilise your Hello Disc™ at the end of your cycle so it’s ready next time you need it. Store it in a dry place out of direct sunlight.
There are detailed cleaning instructions and a user guide in the packaging.
for?Tucked - The tabs tuck underneath the disc and out of the way. Best for a low or average cervix and for sex/play time.
Dropped - The length of the tab is 'free' and drops down. Best for a high cervix or those with reach/grip issues.
Flipped - The bottom loop is looped through the top loop from behind. Best for an average cervix or if you don't know your cervix height.
Trimmed - The second loop is cut off. We don’t recommend cutting your entire tab off! Best for a low cervix or people who find the tab uncomfortable.
No, you should not feel the tab during wear. If you try Hello Disc™ but can feel the looped tab, try one of the other 3 ways to wear it. The versatility of the disc’s Double-Loop tab means there is a way to wear that should suit everyone. It’s worth noting that the vagina lacks nerve endings higher in the vaginal canal.
The Hello Disc™ sits tucked comfortably behind the pubic bone, which is close to the cervix. There is a space called the ‘vaginal fornix’ which is a wider area at the top of the vaginal canal. It is a wider area than the vagina and has lots of room for the menstrual disc to sit.
Your Hello Disc™ is designed to be worn four ways. Choose the best for you from the ‘4 tab positions’ FAQ, above. In all cases, fold your Hello Disc™ longways. The tab end should be the last part of the disc to enter your body. Once you feel you can insert the disc no further, use your finger to push the rim up to tuck the disc behind the pubic bone. Don’t be afraid to push up higher, this is what positions the disc correctly and holds it in place.
Relax your pelvic muscles (a couple of slow deep breaths can help here) and hook your finger through the tab. Gently pull the tab to unhook the disc and remove carefully. Hello Disc™ is designed to be removed with one finger and for no/minimal mess! This might take a little practice to perfect though!
This happens to some menstrual disc users, but not all.
When the user sits on the toilet to remove the disc, the disc tilts and releases some of the contents into the toilet. Using the toilet can trigger this action. A good fit (when the disc rim is pushed up high to sit behind the pubic bone) will mean that your disc doesn’t leak. Some users who have a self-emptying disc find that they need to push the rim back into place, others find that the disc does this all by itself. Most users who find that their disc self empties consider this a bit of a bonus!
Yes! Wear your Hello Disc™ for up to 8 hours while swimming, exercising, sleeping… the works. Plus, it won’t dry you out - like those soggy things with strings.
Yes! You can sleep worry-free. Because Hello Disc™ is held in place by your pubic bone, many menstrual cup users who experienced night leaks (caused by the muscles relaxing that allowed blood to leak past the cup’s rim) find using a menstrual disc overnight means they wake to clean PJs.
Hello Undies™ FAQs
Unlike most brands of period underwear, Hello Undies can safely be tumble dried on a low heat, which allows for quick turnaround between wear. They are reusable absorbent and leakproof and perfect for people wanting a convenient, reliable and environmentally friendly way of managing their periods, light bladder leakage or even for postpartum care. Depending on your level of flow, they can be worn alone or as backup to your Hello Cup or Disc. Hello Undies can be dried in the drier - super convenient! Also, unlike many other brands, we don’t use polyurethane plastic so there will be no ‘crackly’ sound when you move around!
To ensure our products meet our expectations, our undies will not be the cheapest on the market but we believe cheaper alternatives often come with hidden costs in terms of quality, humanity and sustainability. We want your Hello Undies to last and to make your periods easier to manage so it’s vital they are made well. The factory we work with is independently audited each year. To protect against child labour, no employees are aged under 18. Our manufacturer manages the factory and production themselves to ensure quality and transparency, instead of outsourcing components of the manufacturing process.. The annual audit process ensures they meet international Business Social Compliance Initiative best practice across areas including ethical behaviour, waste minimisation, workplace health and safety, decent working hours and fair remuneration.
Our undies are able to absorb up to 5 regular tampons or 25 ml. They are thirsty! And more than suitable for light or heavy flows. Because our undies are super thin and comfortable, Hello Undies are perfect for any day of your cycle - from light days to heavy.
Outer layer - 78% polyamide, 22% elastine
Inner, absorbent layer - 97% polyester, 3% elastic.
The materials used in Hello Undies ensure they will stand the test of time.
Hello Undies are made in an ethically-run factory in China, managed directly by our manufacturer to ensure our ethical and quality standards are met.
To work effectively, it’s important that period underwear fits snugly. We recommend measuring yourself before ordering. Our sizing categories are based on international standards and can be used as a general guide, but actual measurements are more likely to result in the perfect fit. Hello Undies are made from a stretch fabric which gives size flexibility for many.
Measure around the widest part of your hips and buttocks, keeping tape parallel with the floor, then consult our chart.
Six pairs should see you through an average menstrual cycle with one load of washing in the middle. If you have a heavy flow you might need to change them more often, so you’ll need more. If you’re using them to manage light bladder leakage, we suggest the same amounts as a starting point.
Yes, our period underwear is an environmentally sustainable solution for menstruation or period management. Because they’re reusable and washable, switching to them will prevent plastic-lined single-use pads, tampons and liners from piling up in landfill where they can take up to 500 years to biodegrade. Each pair of Hello Undies will hold the equivalent of five tampons or regular single-use pads. They will also save you a lot of money over time.
Our leak-proof period underwear stands the test of time! You should get years of amazingness from them - saving you heaps of moolah and giving you some serious kudos with Mother Nature by diverting hundreds of single use period products from the world’s landfills with each pair.
No. Our Hello Undies have Okeo-Tex Standard 100 accreditation and do not contain harmful chemicals. The gusset material has been independently lab tested and found to be free of potentially harmful substances such as PFOS or PFOA, AZO dyes, organic compounds, DMFu and CMR. Our manufacturer has a very strong focus on making their textiles safe for consumers and kind to the environment. With these goals in mind, they have sought to avoid significant chemical processes during manufacturing, which is why they dye their yarns prior to textile knitting, rather than once the textiles have been created. This approach uses less processing, resulting in lower PH levels that ensure consumers are not adversely impacted when wearing the textiles over their sensitive body parts. Hello Undies are made from hypoallergenic materials to ensure they're kind to your skin.
How to wear your Hello Undies™
Many customers tell us they can comfortably wear the same Hello Undies for 24 hours on lighter days, for reassurance against light bladder leakage or when worn used as backup to a menstrual cup or menstrual disc. On heavier days you may wish to change them twice a day if using them as your main period care product.
Your own comfort is the best guide. While many of our customers can wear their Hello Undies for a full day without change, if your menstrual flow is heavy or you have moderate bladder leakage, you may want to change more regularly. Each pair of Hello.™ Undies holds the equivalent of five tampons or regular pads. You may initially feel some dampness but as the absorbent material wicks the moisture away this will disappear. If your undies do feel continuously damp or heavy, it may be a sign you need to change them
Yes, they are the equivalent of five regular tampons or regular single-use pads. They’re pretty darn thirsty! If your period is really heavy, you may need to change them during the day.
We recommend waiting a few days because you will likely have clots and lochia. You want to make sure you’ve got the green light from your lead maternity carer.
Yes, absolutely. As long as they feel comfortable and fit snugly, our period underwear is a great option for overnight period management. You can use them either alone or as backup to your menstrual cup or your menstrual disc
Yes, the patented absorbent technology we use was originally designed for incontinence which is much more of a technical challenge than period blood because it is less viscous and tends to be released in larger volume. Hello.™ Undies are also great to use during pregnancy and after pregnancy when you might experience leaks when you cough, sneeze, laugh or lift something heavy. They are not designed for full bladder voids or faecal incontinence.
No. The absorbent technology used in Hello Undies has been tested and verified odour-resistant. Noone will be able to smell your menstrual blood or urine while you are wearing them. If you notice a stale smell developing after they have been washed a few times (especially if they’ve been left in the washing machine too long or not completely dried), we recommend submerging them in a solution of three parts water to one part white vinegar. Soak for about 30 minutes and then wash in the machine or by hand as normal.
Because it’s so effective it doesn’t need to! Other brands base their capacity claims on the total area of absorbent material – so if their underwear features an absorbent gusset that reaches from front waistband to back waistband, they measure how much the total area can absorb without leaking, then claim that as the capacity of their product. This can be misleading as nobody actually bleeds or pees right up to the waistband of their underwear. When the absorbency capacity in the centre of the gusset is exceeded, the inevitable result of gravitational flow is that the undies leak from the sides of the gusset. The patented absorbent material used in Hello Undies offer superior absorbency where you need it so we don’t need the extra bulk front and back.
We cannot offer returns or exchanges on any Hello Undies which have been opened. This is because we cannot resell products that have been handled by customers in any way.
Please read our size guide carefully and use the measurement chart before purchasing.
If you have bought multiple pairs of Hello Undies and tried one and decided it’s not the right size, you can return the unopened boxes for an exchange or refund (excluding shipping).

Caring For Your Hello Undies™
Yes. This will activate the multi-layered absorbent material. Make sure you wash your Hello Undies and Hello Pad according to our care instructions.
Our leakproof and absorbent Hello Undies can be hand or machine washed just like your ordinary laundry. Just pop them in the washing machine on a delicate cycle below 40°C/105°F. You can hand wash them if you prefer. Use your ordinary washing powder or liquid. Do not use bleach, fabric conditioner or antibacterial sprays. Do not dry clean them.
It interferes with the absorbency of the material and reduces its effectiveness.
Yes! We recommend giving them a quick rinse before putting them in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry (inside out). Don’t worry – they won’t stain your other clothes!
Of course - just make sure the water is no hotter than 40°C/105°F.
Yes. The water needs to be able to rinse the gusset area. This is why we also don’t recommend putting them in a delicates bag. We recommend turning your Hello Undies inside out when machine washing to ensure good water flow through the gusset and to help protect delicate finishes such as our velvet style briefs.
If you don’t have time to wash them straight away, just rinse them in cool water until the water runs clear, then squeeze or wring out most of the water and set them aside until you are putting a load of washing on. Pro tip: rinse them while you’re in the shower!
Yes! Thanks to our patented leak proof material we don’t use the layer of polyurethane plastic most other brands do so you can safely pop your Hello Undies in the tumble dryer on a low heat.
Most reusable period underwear contain a layer of polyurethane plastic as waterproofing. Unfortunately, plastic tends to warp and shrink when it’s subjected to heat so if you accidentally put them through the dryer the chances are the plastic will distort which will lead to your period underwear no longer being leakproof. Repeated washing will also break down the plastic, also reducing its ability to prevent leaks.
Because they’re designed specifically to absorb and hold liquid, period underwear will take longer than ordinary underwear to dry – about the same amount of time as a pair of thick sports socks. That’s why it’s so handy that ours can be thrown in the dryer on low heat so you can wear them again sooner – meaning you need fewer pairs to get through your menstrual cycle. You can also hang them on the washing line outside – just keep them away from direct sunlight. They can also be dried in an airing closet or on an indoor drying rack or heated towel rail. Because the outer layer is designed to retain liquid, they’ll dry faster if you turn them inside out.
HELLO CUP™ TROUBLESHOOTING
Yes! Hello Cup™ can be used when you are camping or in a toilet cubicle, or anywhere you don't have access to a tap. Simply wipe out with loo paper and reinsert. Or, you might prefer to use a small squeezy water bottle which you can rinse the cup with.
Our cleaning hero, Hello Go can also be used in these situations. You can either spray the cup and your hands in the morning to protect them all day, or after you wipe the cup when you are out and about you can spray with Hello Go (wait for it to dry so it is effective) and then insert your cup again. Easy.
No - if your cup is inserted correctly, a seal will have formed and this will prevent your cup from leaking. Because they hold more blood than tampons, your Hello Cup™ is perfect for overnight.
Unlike tampons and pads, the blood doesn't mix with the air. It is this combo that can make having your period literally a stink time. Cups are pretty much odour free. Yay. If you do find your cup a bit wiffy, try changing it more regularly. Here are a few other tips to combat odour:
Dry your cup in indirect sunlight for a few hours
Boil your cup for three minutes (like you do at the end of each cycle)
Soak your cup in a mix of lemon juice and water or a 1/2 & 1/2 white vinegar and water solution for an hour - then rinse thoroughly.
Using a Hello Cup™ is very clean because blood is captured inside the cup. While you're getting the hang of things and nailing your technique, you might find it's a bit messy - but not messy like a scene from the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. To remove the cup, locate the base and squeeze it gently. This will release the suction. Pull the cup out keeping it upright. Simply tip the contents down the toilet, rinse or wipe out the cup and reinsert. Simple.
Stains can happen and vary between individuals. The best way to prevent staining is to rinse your cup in cold water each time you remove, making sure you flush out the suction holes and also rinse the base and around the lettering on the cup. Cold water halts stains setting in - whereas hot water can help them set in - so remember - cold always comes first! If you have existing staining, you can soak your cup in a 1:3 solution of household bleach and water (1 part bleach to 3 parts water) for 15 - 20 mins. Don't leave your cup in the solution for longer than the recommended time frame. A mixture of lemon juice and water (50/50) or white vinegar and water (50/50) can also help lift stains and odours.
No - it's basically a dead end street up there! If you are struggling to reach your menstrual cup, there's a chance you have a high cervix and your Hello Cup has moved up. It's a good idea to measure your cervix before you try a cup for the first time. We recommend measuring your cervix on days 1-3 of your period using our handy guide so you know which cup to buy.
If your menstrual cup is out of reach - don't panic. During the course of a day your cervix can move up and down and your cup can move up and down with it. While it's easier said than done sometimes, the key is to relax - the more tense you are, the more your muscles will clench around your Hello Cup making it harder to remove your cup. Take some deep breaths and focus on opening your pelvic floor muscles. Gently bare down like you are doing a poo (don't strain). The more you use your menstrual cup, the easier and faster removal will be. If you are still having issues, drop us a line at: hello@helloperiod.com.
Springing a leak is no fun. But, like with tampons, they can happen from time to time. Here are our pro-tips on how to resolve them:
1. Your cup hasn't opened out properly. This is normally caused by either the fold or the size being not right.
We recommend using a shallow punchdown fold rather than the 'c' fold when inserting your cup, angling it back toward your tailbone. Let the cup open when it is just inside the vagina and then manoeuvre higher with the toggle. It also pays to give the toggle a couple of gentle tugs after inserting your Hello Cup to help ensure a suction has been formed.
Despite what many think, a leaking cup can sometimes be a sign your cup is too big. If your cup doesn't have enough room to unfold properly, it may buckle and you might experience leaking down the side. Fit and petite users often find they are a smaller size regardless of age and whether or not they have had children. We do not recommend choosing a cup size based solely on your flow. Our handy size quiz will help you work out what's the best choice for you.
2. Your cup isn't sitting under your cervix.
Ideally you need your cup to sit just below your cervix but here's the catch - not all cervixes are centred! Next time you have a smear or vaginal exam, ask your doctor or gynaecologist where your cervix sits. If your cervix sits to the left, for example, you will want to angle your cup more to the left to ensure it sits below your cervix.
3. Your cup was wet when you inserted it.
If there's excess water on the outside of the cup it can mix with menstrual blood already in your vagina making you think you've sprung a leak when it is more of an 'existing situation' scenario. To avoid this, wipe your cup dry before you insert.
4. If your bowel is full, it can affect your cup (your mum says hi and to eat more fibre).
Similarly when you do a poo, the motion can sometimes cause a bit of leakage.
5. If your cup is nearly full, the weight of the cup can reduce the suction which may cause leakage.
While cups can be worn for 8-12 hours, if your flow is heavy you will need to empty more often.
6. Your cervix height can complicate things too! If you have a high or low cervix it may prevent the cup from opening fully. You can use our handy guide to measure your cervix and check to see what is happening for you!
Be patient with yourself. Cups can take a while to get the hang of - but don't give up! Some users chose to wear our washable Hello Liners as a safeguard while they get used to cup life.

HELLO PADS FAQ
Hello Pads have leading-edge absorbent and leakproof technology textiles. They are seam-sealed and stitched for superior leak free performance without a PU plastic layer. Each Hello Pad is 32 cm long and 2 mm in thickness. There is no need for wings as each Hello Pad has a gorgeous silicone design on the underside to ensure they don’t move around! A snug pair of underwear which is not super shiny or smooth will also help them stay in place. Each Hello Pad does have straps which can be used as additional support to hold your pad in place. These straps are optional so if you don’t like them or need them, you can absolutely chop them off!
Our reusable, absorbent and leakproof Hello Pads are perfect for people wanting a convenient, reliable and environmentally friendly way of managing their periods, light bladder leakage or even for postpartum care.
Hello Pads are super thin, only 2 mm! Unlike most brands of reusable pads, Hello Pads can safely be tumble dried on a low heat, which allows for quick turnaround between wear. This is because there is no PU plastic layer to warp or be damaged by heat and become less waterproof. The delicate silicone design on the underside helps the pads stay in place, there are no wings! Also, unlike many other brands, we don’t use PU plastic so there will be no ‘crackly’ sound when you move around!
Many customers tell us they can comfortably wear the same Hello Pad for 24 hours on lighter days, for reassurance against light bladder leakage or when worn used as backup to a menstrual cup or menstrual disc. On heavier days you may wish to change it twice a day if using them as your main period care product.
Six pads should see you through an average menstrual cycle with one load of washing in the middle. If you have a heavy flow you might need to change them more often, so you’ll need more. If you’re using them to manage light bladder leakage, we suggest the same amount (6) as a starting point.
Yes, they are the equivalent of five regular tampons or regular single-use pads. They’re pretty darn thirsty! If your period is really heavy, you may need to change them during the day.
Yes, the patented absorbent technology we use was originally designed for incontinence which is much more of a technical challenge than period blood because it is less viscous and tends to be released in larger volume. Hello Pads are also great to use during pregnancy and after pregnancy when you might experience leaks when you cough, sneeze, laugh or lift something heavy.
Hello Pads can be hand or machine washed just like your other laundry, offering a convenient, eco-friendly and easy-care alternative to single-use pads and tampons. After use, give them a quick cold rinse until the water runs clear, then toss them in the washing machine with the rest of your laundry on a delicate cycle below 40°C/105°F. Use your ordinary washing powder or liquid. Do not bleach, use fabric conditioner or antibacterial sprays or dry clean.
No. Our Hello Pads have Oeko-Tex Standard 100 accreditation and do not contain harmful chemicals. The gusset material has been independently lab tested and found to be free of potentially harmful substances such as PFOS or PFOA, AZO dyes, organic compounds, DMFu and CMR. Our Hello Pad manufacturer has a very strong focus on making their textiles safe for consumers and kind to the environment. With these goals in mind, they’ve sought to avoid significant chemical processes during manufacturing, which is why they dye their yarns prior to textile knitting, rather than once the textiles have been created. This approach uses less processing, resulting in lower PH levels that ensure consumers are not adversely impacted when wearing the textiles over their sensitive body parts. Hello Pads are made from hypoallergenic materials to ensure they're kind to your skin.
Yes! Thanks to our patented leak proof material we don’t use the layer of PU plastic most other brands do so you can safely pop your Hello Pads in the tumble dryer on a low heat.
Hello Pads are made in an ethically-run factory in China, managed directly by our manufacturer to ensure our ethical and quality standards are met.
Our Pads are able to absorb up to 5 regular tampons or 25 ml. They are thirsty! And more than suitable for light or heavy flows. Because they are super thin and comfortable, Hello Pads are perfect for any day of your cycle - from light days to heavy.

Hello Go™ provides a barrier to bacteria for up to 24 hours. Spray onto a dry Hello Cup™ or Hello Disc™ and allow to dry. A single application every 24 hours forms an invisible barrier shield on the skin or surface. Works by forming a layer of microscopic "pins" which attract, pierce and kill pathogens. The same principle as a pin popping a balloon. Also, this means that the pathogens cannot reform. Traditional sanitizers kill bacteria by poison or high alcohol content. Hello Go™ is alcohol-free and safe for food and surfaces (not just cup/disc and hands). Non drying - doesn't cause chapped skin. Hello Go™ has a pH of 6.9. Water is classified as neutral at pH7. When it is dry on the cup it forms a layer which is bound to the surface of the cup and doesn't leach into the vagina.
